Visualization & Rendering

Simulation data set can be useful for many scientific study, such as the fluid study with vortices and turbulence. However, understanding the simulation data set requires sophisticated visualization techniques, and hopefully with real-time performance. Simulation data set can also be used for rendering realistic fluids, which can be used for creating visible virtual world. Our lab develops visualization and rendering techniques for fluids. For visualization, we focus on visualization techniques for vortex and turbulence structures in both classical and quantum fluids, which can be used for scientific study and serve as an important tool for fundamental science. It can also be used in computational design and fabrication. For rendering, we are developing hybrid rendering techniques, which combine particle and ray-tracing-based techniques for creating realistic 3D fluids. Such techniques can also be modified to support particle-based fluid flow visualization.
